Women in Banking: Female Leaders at Muncy Bank

Posted on 2/22/2021 by

International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on March 8th. At Muncy Bank we celebrate women in banking and advocate for continued growth and promotion. Despite being a small community bank, we employ many females in leadership roles.

International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on March 8th. Observed for the first time in 1911, this day recognizes the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. According to Catalyst.org, women represent 54.3% of the financial services industry in the United States. Yet as you travel up the financial leadership ladder, you’ll find fewer and fewer women in senior leadership roles. In 2019 only 21.9 percent of senior leadership roles within financial services firms were held by women.

At Muncy Bank we celebrate women in banking and advocate for continued growth and promotion.

At Muncy Bank we celebrate women in banking and advocate for continued growth and promotion. Despite being a small community bank, we employ many females in leadership roles. Our inclusive workplace is one of the many reasons that American Banker Magazine has voted Muncy Bank as one of the “Best Banks To Work For” every year since 2013. In celebration of International Women’s Day, we are proud to highlight two senior-level members of the Muncy team who represent women in the financial sector.

Tammy Gunsallus - Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer

Tammy Gunsallus is a Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer at The Muncy Bank and Trust Company. She began her career in banking in 1982. On her way to becoming Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer at Muncy Bank, she worked in many important aspects of retail banking including business development, retail lending, loan administration, branch administration, training, investment services, and commercial services. “The inclusive environment supported by our President, Rob Glunk, makes me proud to call Muncy Bank home.  Rob sees the value of including employees based on their experience and not their gender.”

Tammy graduated from Jersey Shore Area High School. She later attended the Pennsylvania Bankers Association’s (PBA) School of Banking, as well as the PBA Advanced School of Banking and the PBA Commercial Lending School.  Tammy believes in cultivating strong community roots and spends much of her free time participating in community and professional service. She currently serves as the Treasurer of the Jersey Shore Library Endowment and Secretary of the Love Center Food Pantry in Jersey Shore.

Her past community roles include President of the Jersey Shore YMCA and Chairman of the Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce. Tammy was a 2020 PA Bankers “Women in Banking Recognition of Excellence” Nominee as well as a 2016 “YMCA of Northcentral PA Women of Excellence” Nominee.  She has also served proudly as a Board Member on the Pennsylvania Bankers Public Affairs Committee and as a Women in Banking Advisory Committee Member.

Kathlene Bower - Senior Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer

Kathlene Bower is a Senior Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer at The Muncy Bank and Trust Company. Kate joined Muncy Bank in 1990 and quickly became an integral part of the Muncy Bank business development team. Throughout her career, Kate has focused on staying actively involved with her business customers. It is her goal to help customers determine and fulfill all their financial needs.  “The bank’s 9-member executive management team is made up of 6 women, as a 31-year Muncy Bank veteran I’m happy the rest of the industry is becoming more inclusive as well.”

A Hughesville High School graduate, Kate is a life-long resident of Eastern Lycoming County. She is a 20-year member of the Muncy Area Kiwanis Club and a huge supporter of many annual activities such as the Easter egg hunt and Muncy’s Fourth Friday events.  Always willing to help the local community, Kate can be found raising money for many local causes.

Muncy Bank is proud to be a leader inc closing the gender gap in the male dominated field of finance

The global conversation surrounding gender equity is promoting change across a wide range of industries. CNBC reports that “a record number of women now hold the top spot at Fortune 500 companies”. Of all the financial business sectors, banking is showing the most positive change. In the past few years, women in banking have received more equitable promotion to senior and Chief level positions than in the past. In 2010, women held only 11 percent of the highest-paid positions in banking. According to Fairygodboss.com, women can now be found in 26 percent of the highest-paid positions in banking. That’s good news for the financial future. The Peterson Institute for International Economics found that having women at the C-Suite level significantly increases net margins.

Muncy Bank is proud to be a leader in closing the gender gap in the historically male-dominated field of finance. If you are looking to begin or enhance your banking career, Muncy Bank has several career opportunities available. Our convenient locations in Muncy, Hughesville, Clarkstown, Montoursville, Dewart, Avis, Montgomery, and Linden proudly serve our community’s banking needs. Muncy Bank employees are available to answer your financial questions and advocate for your success.
